You can also get free kittens when you buy books.

If you ever wanted to adopt a fluffy tiny kitten, you should start your search at a local animal shelter. You could always go to a bookstore instead.

Outside of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, an independent bookstore named Otis & Clementine’s Books and Coffee came up with a novel way to get people to help cats. Entering this coffee shop or bookstore, you may find something out of the ordinary. That’s a rare form of beauty.

Kittens! There are a lot of them! Taking a break from studying to play about with the books and take a nap. Maybe they’re hiding in the closet with a copy of Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat. In addition to the many kittens, “typically a mom cat as well,” the bookstore’s owner Ellen Helmke told Narcity. Kittens at the bookstore aren’t, however, abandoned outside cats are brought inside out of the elements. They are supplied by the Nova Scotia-based rescue group South Paw Conservation.

If you were in Upper Tantallon and you went to Otis & Clementine’s and saw a cat you absolutely adored, you’d better act fast. Because of how quickly people adopt them, “all the kittens are in and out rather rapidly,” Helmke said.

However, you can’t just pick up these cats and take them home with you if you decide to adopt them. The adoption fee covers all costs, including medical care. In addition, would-be tabby owners are required to provide references before they may bring home their energetic new pet.

A few years ago, after finding she had lots of space for cute kitties, Helmke started the kitten adoption program. More than 30 of the bookstore’s cats have been adopted. And there is no question in our minds that this number will rise. She said that while some customers come in to browse the books, others come only to see the kittens.
