It’s not like Nuka ever wasn’t a sociable pooch. The black German shepherd’s upbringing included a wide variety of furry, feathery, and scaly friends, so he naturally developed a fondness for all creatures great and small. “Our vet indicated when he was younger that he was smart beyond his years… since he’s normally so tranquil and relaxed,” Nuka’s mother, Nicole Yates, said.
The local pet shop had to find temporary homes for its animals in April because of the COVID-19 quarantine, and Nuka graciously took in one of the strays. The gray and white rat, Blue, clearly needed comforting, and Nuka was happy to supply it.
“In contrast to my other rats, the bond between Blue and Nuka was immediately apparent,” Yates said. “Blue appeared to appreciate Nuka even more than the others! When I set him down on the floor, he immediately went to go for Nuka, who he adored cuddling with.
Whenever Nuka’s mother entered a room while holding a tiny animal, he was taught to lay down. Yates lets him play gently with his smaller siblings when he settles down. They consider their big brother to be nothing to be terrified of.
Everything about Blue’s new situation is ideal. Because of Nuka’s abundant hair, the tiny rat has a cozy home. And if Nuka sees Blue sleeping, he won’t get up for fear of waking him.
Yate continues, “Blue is a really calm rat, so he’s very comfortable just being with Nuka and resting there with him, either curled into his mane or at his belly,” and adds, “Nuka loves to wash Blue with licks, which Blue doesn’t seem to mind either.”
When Blue is awake, he utilizes his buddy dog as a jungle gym since he feels so comfortable around him.To judge from his expression, Nuka doesn’t give a hoot, and he’s just happy to see his friend happy.
We hope that tiny Blue and sweet Nuka’s friendship becomes stronger as time goes on.
Yes, that’s Nuka! In the midst of a swarm of little friends! Obviously, this is something out of a children’s book.
