A typical horse stands over 5 feet tall and weighs about 1,500 pounds. Einstein was well behind his peers at five months old, despite being half as tall and weighing only 250 pounds. This miniature horse was only 20 inches tall and weighed 47 pounds. Einstein was oddly small from the start.
At birth, a miniature horse weighs between 21 and 22 pounds. Einstein weighed only 6 pounds (2.1 kg) and stood only 14 inches (35.5 cm) tall when he was born.

Einstein Horse History
Einstein is the smallest stallion in the world. He weighed six pounds and stood fourteen inches off the ground when he was born on April 22, 2010. That’s a lot lighter than the average weight of a newborn thoroughbred horse, which ranges from 150 to 200 pounds.
Einstein gave birth to two other champion miniature horses. His mother was 32 inches tall, while his father was 30 inches tall.

Is Einstein the Mini Horse in Good Health?
Although horses with dwarfism are frequently afflicted with health problems, Einstein has remained relatively healthy throughout his life.
Einstein’s only major medical event occurred when he was only two months old and suffered a spinal cord injury. On the day of his surgery, Einstein set another world record by being the only horse ever operated on by a canine neurosurgeon. The original equine surgeon chosen for the job was unable to perform the operation due to Einstein’s size.
Einstein Horse’s Operation
At the age of two months, Einstein set a new record as the first and only horse to undergo surgery by a canine specialist neurosurgeon. Einstein suffered a spinal cord injury and was saved by an eight-hour operation at Cornell University.
He even made an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show just eight weeks after his surgery!
What Is the Difference Between a Pony and a Mini Horse?
Although Einstein is small, he is not a pony, and ponies and miniature horses are two different types of animals.
Mini horses are the result of years of selective breeding of small horse breeds. Ponies, on the other hand, developed their short stature and bulky build as a result of evolution in order to thrive in harsh climates.
To distinguish between the two, remember that mini horses have a long neck, a small head, and a thin mane, tail, and coat. Ponies, on the other hand, are shorter, stockier, and furrier. They frequently have a thick, short neck and short, stubby legs.
Is Einstein the horse still alive?
He was retired on March 11, 2019 to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Georgetown, Kentucky. He was euthanized on October 28, 2020, at the age of 18 due to cancer complications.
