The Tarzan and Jungle Book fandom is universal. We all viewed the films and admired the actors’ portrayals of survival in the wild and their connection with the natural world. What would you think if we told you that the girl who grew up in the movie Wilderness is based on a real person? You have to admit that it sounds incredible.
Tippi’s narrative is based on a true event; she did, in fact, spend the first decade of her life in the wild. What this girl’s life is all about is proving that humans can form extraordinary bonds with nature and wild animals. And it turns out the movie version is not so far-fetched after all!
Tippi Benjamine Okanti Degre lives in the African bush for the first ten years of her life. Images from “Tippi: My Book of Africa” capture the enchanted existence she led among Africa’s natural wonders. Now available in print for the first time anywhere in the world, the book features several illustrations, including one of the authors with her elephant “brother” and her leopard “best friend.”
