Pepper, E.v.ict.ed Texas Library Cat, now listed for Adoption! – Animalpond

Everybody loved her!! She brought happiness to everybody who visited the library. The [complainers] always seem to get the upper hand.
She probably kept mice from eating the books!!

The community rallied to the young calico kitty’s side after the Commissioners Court ruled she couldn’t stay at the library.
SAN ANTONIO – A Hill Country kitty who warmed hearts at a local library then saw her fanbase explode when local officials ordered that she pack up her treats and hit the road is now looking for a family to take her in.

Pepper, an 8-month-old calico, had been providing companionship to patrons and creating a welcoming environment at “Pioneer Memorial Library in Fredericksburg”, a petition says. That changed when staff were told last week she must go as a result of a “Gillespie County Commissioners Court” decision.

“An American Library Association survey found that library animals, like Pepper, significantly improve the atmosphere of public libraries, making them more approachable and friendly spaces,” says that petition which has gathered thousands of signatures from residents who want to see her returned.
In the face of these benefits, the decision to [re.mo.ve] her is [de.vas.tat.ing]. The right to a safe home is essential for everyone and every being, including our beloved Pepper.

A library staff members told KENS 5 they could neither confirm nor deny that Pepper was [k.i.ck.ed] out.
But Gillespie County Judge Daniel Jones expanded on the decision, saying library personnel should have sought CONSENT from county leaders before bringing in an animal.

Jones said: Regrettably, the presence of the cat in the County Library has now become a [d.i.vis.ive i.ss.u.e], pitting members of our community [ag.ain.st] one another. This situation is also now taking away focus and resources from the other important work of conducting the business of the people of Gillespie County.

Jones said his awareness of the Pepper situation started about two weeks ago “when I received the first of what has become many emails and phone calls on the matter,” but didn’t specify what the initial [complaints] may have been about.

For now, Pepper is being cared for by staff members at “Hill Country SPCA”, which has now listed “your favorite library cat” for adoption.

Hill Country SPCA said in a Facebook post: While she’s adored by all at the library, Pepper’s story is still waiting for its happy ending. With her striking good looks and a golden heart, Pepper is sure to make a purr-fect addition to the right family.

Pepper would be a good mascot for the library. People come in for books & greet Pepper.😻
Let’s find Pepper a good home!❤🙏🙏
