In 2006, after working as a bartender in San Diego, California, Liz Clark decided to travel the globe on her yacht. Clark received a Cal 40 sailboat as payment for her books chronicling her travels around the globe. Six months old in 2013, “Captain Lizzy” rescued a cat and took it aboard.

Clark said of her feline friend in an interview with Buzzfeed, “She has learned to live near water.” Amelia the cat enjoys going on walks in the park, strolls along the beach, and fishing trips on the water.

Clark expanded by stating she often needs to perform things that would make a cat extremely uncomfortable. But I believe she realizes I will safeguard her and that we will have a wonderful time together. With her on board, the Swell seems more like a home than ever.

Clark has traveled extensively in the South Pacific and along the western shores of Central America and Mexico. Clark remarked that the kitten, despite her little stature, carried herself with the “commanding lioness attitude and wild swagger” of a lioness. Evidently, Amelia has as much fun on hikes with Clark as he does. She values the excitement of trying something new just as much as the relaxation of a day at the spa.

Clark then goes into depth about the anxiety she had just before the journey began. Leaving the pier and her loved ones was “awful,” she adds. She was hesitant to take command of such a massive vessel on an unknown oceanic expedition. She goes on to say, “But I felt I had to try or forever regret it.”

When she left, she didn’t have the money to cover her expenses, and contrary to rumors, she is not from a rich family. Whenever possible, Clark will sleep outside on a pool mat.

However, “I feel wealthy when I take in that starry sky and the fresh ocean air and plunge into the waves every morning.”

She could be next to Amelia in any part of the globe and feel at home.
